This week, the easing of producers\u2019 price index provided more <strong>support for the equities sector<\/strong> at the expense of the <strong>dollar<\/strong>. In this report we aim to present the recent earnings releases results of <strong>Walmart<\/strong> et <strong>Home<\/strong> <strong>Depot<\/strong> for the third quarter and conclude with a technical analysis of <strong>Dow Jones index<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-walmart-showcases-resilient-sales-in-q3\"><strong>Walmart showcases resilient sales in Q3<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Walmart<\/strong>, (#<strong>WMT<\/strong>) the <strong>retail<\/strong> <strong>consumer<\/strong> stables <strong>giant<\/strong>, famous for its <strong>hypermarkets<\/strong> across the United States and Mexico, was in the <strong>greens yesterday<\/strong>, closing the day near the $147 mark. Walmart is up marginally, by roughly 2% on a year-to-year basis, while its 52-week trading range is between $117 and $160. Yesterday, the company released its <strong>third quarter earnings report<\/strong>, with the results <strong>beating<\/strong> <strong>both<\/strong> <strong>revenue<\/strong> et <strong>EPS<\/strong> <strong>expectations<\/strong>, causing its share price to rise by more than 6.5%. In regards to the figures released, Walmart exceeded revenue projections by $4.7billion in the third quarter and EPS reported, beat forecasts by 18 cents. The results led <strong>analysts<\/strong> to <strong>upwardly<\/strong> <strong>revise<\/strong> their <strong>projections<\/strong> for the next quarter. <strong>Traditional stores<\/strong> contributed the most to the success, with comparable sales growth of 8.2% in the US for the third quarter, as well as the 16% growth in the <strong>e-commerce segment<\/strong> of the business. It is evident that <strong>consumer spending<\/strong> <strong>trends<\/strong> are <strong>shifting<\/strong> as <strong>inflationary pressures persist<\/strong> in the US economy, pushing <strong>high income earners<\/strong> to opt for <strong>less-pristine retail stores<\/strong>. The company\u2019s CEO McMillon commented that \u201ccustomers that came to us less frequently in the past are now shopping with us more often, including <strong>higher-income customers<\/strong>\u201d, highlighting the shift in consumers\u2019 spending trends has indeed been affected by <strong>inflationary pressures<\/strong> as they continue to take a toll on their <strong>purchasing power<\/strong>. Furthermore, the company expects the trend to continue going forward, forecasting that more customers and members will be choosing Walmart, <strong>attracted<\/strong> <strong>by<\/strong> <strong>value<\/strong> and assortments <strong>the<\/strong> <strong>retailer<\/strong> <strong>offers<\/strong>, despite the <strong>cost of everyday items<\/strong> being still <strong>stubbornly high<\/strong> across many of their item categories. Even though, Walmart\u2019s executives appeared optimistic going forward, the company\u2019s CFO acknowledged the possible adverse effects inflation can bring. \u201cWhile we&#8217;re encouraged by our position and our confidence in our business remains high, the macro backdrop remains challenging as <strong>persistent inflation i<\/strong>s impacting the consumer and our business\u201d. Lastly, of material importance for Walmart\u2019s price action will be the <strong>Retail sales rate<\/strong> for October expected later today and could provide further support for the stock should the actual rate meet the expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-home-depot-records-positive-earnings-surprise\"><strong>Home Depot records positive earnings surprise<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Home Depot<\/strong>, Inc. (#<strong>HD<\/strong>) the <strong>consumer discretionary<\/strong> colossus, famous for its <strong>home<\/strong> <strong>improvement<\/strong> shops for <strong>retail consumers<\/strong>, was in the <strong>greens yesterday<\/strong>, closing the day near the $312 mark. Home Depot\u2019s stock price is down by roughly 23% on a year-to-year basis, while its 52-week trading range is between $264 and $420. The company announced its Q3 earnings report results yesterday, and <strong>analysts<\/strong> were <strong>surprised<\/strong> to see the <strong>retailer beating both EPS and Revenue estimates<\/strong>. The results showcased <strong>resiliency<\/strong> from <strong>Home Depot<\/strong> navigating through a <strong>challenging<\/strong> and tumultuous period of <strong>high interest<\/strong> <strong>rates<\/strong>, <strong>surging<\/strong> <strong>inflation<\/strong> et <strong>supply<\/strong> <strong>chain<\/strong> <strong>disruptions<\/strong> alongside <strong>intensifying<\/strong> <strong>concerns<\/strong> about <strong>rising<\/strong> US <strong>mortgage<\/strong> <strong>rates<\/strong>. More specifically, the company beat EPS forecasts by 12 cents and Revenue reported an upward surprise of more than $900 million. Following the release, the <strong>upward revisions<\/strong> for the future performance of the company <strong>increased<\/strong>, with <strong>analysts appearing optimistic<\/strong> for Q4. The better-than-expected results were due to the <strong>strong comparable sales<\/strong> in both <strong>Pro<\/strong> et <strong>DIY<\/strong> <strong>customer<\/strong> <strong>segments<\/strong> showcasing <strong>robustness<\/strong> amidst a period were <strong>home improvement<\/strong> et <strong>house remodeling indicators<\/strong> pointed to <strong>degrading demand conditions<\/strong>.\u00a0 On the flip side, <strong>elevated inventory levels<\/strong> were an area seen as problematic, since the <strong>inventories turnover decreased<\/strong> in Q3 signaling <strong>stock replenishing inefficiencies<\/strong> and the <strong>inventory growth<\/strong> primarily <strong>reflected<\/strong> the <strong>inflationary problem<\/strong> as well as <strong>strategic decisions<\/strong> in response to the <strong>supply chain disruptions<\/strong>. We hold a <strong>bullish outlook bias<\/strong> for the index given the <strong>ascending trendline<\/strong>, but we note the recent <strong>stalling<\/strong> of the <strong>price<\/strong> <strong>action<\/strong> near the 34040 (R1) <strong>resistance<\/strong> level. The RSI indicator below our 4 hour chart points to a reading of 54 showcasing <strong>slight bullish momentum<\/strong> in favour of the index, however the price action appears to be <strong>losing steam<\/strong>. Should the <strong>bulls remain in control<\/strong> et <strong>positive sentiment reignites<\/strong>, we may see the <strong>definitive<\/strong> break above the 34040 (R1) <strong>resistance<\/strong> level and head to higher ground towards the 34800 (R2) <strong>resistance<\/strong> <strong>barrier<\/strong>.
