In this report we aim to present the recent fundamental and economic news releases that impacted the US stock markets, look ahead at the upcoming events that could affect their performance and conclude with a technical analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-us-stock-market-traders-keep-the-ship-level\"><strong>US stock market traders keep the ship level<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>All three major <strong>US stock market indices<\/strong>, namely the <strong>S&amp;P 500<\/strong>, the <strong>Dow Jones 30<\/strong> and the <strong>NASDAQ 100 <\/strong>recorded a slight <strong>decline<\/strong> since last week. The release of the <strong>preliminary<\/strong> <strong>US GDP rate for Q1<\/strong>, was indicative of a slowdown in US economic growth, as the impact of high interest rates are evidently becoming more visible in financial data releases. On the other hand, with the earnings season in full swing, we highlight the positive earnings releases by high profile companies such as <strong>Meta (#FB),<\/strong> <strong>Boeing (#BA)<\/strong>, <strong>eBay(#EBAY)<\/strong>, <strong>Exxon Mobil (#XOM)<\/strong> \uadf8\ub9ac\uace0 <strong>Ford (#F)<\/strong> in the past week, which have aided to restoring consumer confidence and boosting traders optimism in the markets, as the <strong>economic<\/strong> <strong>downturn<\/strong> from <strong>high interest rates<\/strong>, has yet to be seen in <strong>equities<\/strong>. Despite the <strong>persistent<\/strong> <strong>inflationary<\/strong> <strong>pressures<\/strong>, firms on some occasions, were able to <strong>outperform<\/strong> the <strong>predictions<\/strong> made by analysts, by posting <strong>stronger<\/strong> <strong>results<\/strong> in addition to providing optimistic economic forecasts for future business revenue. On the other hand, <strong>US regional banks<\/strong> have been <strong>pummeled<\/strong> following <strong>weaker<\/strong> than expected earnings <strong>releases<\/strong>, combined with the <strong>crash<\/strong> of <strong>First Republic Bank<\/strong> &nbsp;have further heightened fears of a continued banking crisis which could in theory, spiral into <strong>widespread panic<\/strong> in the <strong>equities market<\/strong>, as fears of a <strong>recession<\/strong> loom. The murky waters surrounding <strong>First Republic<\/strong> were known beforehand, yet the <strong>surprise<\/strong> <strong>release<\/strong> that the bank had experienced <strong>$100bn in withdrawals<\/strong> from deposits, stoked <strong>fear<\/strong> in <strong>equity<\/strong> <strong>\ud2b8\ub808\uc774\ub354<\/strong>, despite multiple re-assurances by <strong>policymakers<\/strong> that the <strong>banking<\/strong> <strong>system<\/strong> is <strong>\u2018sound and resilient\u2019<\/strong>. The reality appears to be that the <strong>financial<\/strong> <strong>stress<\/strong> has <strong>yet<\/strong> to <strong>subside<\/strong>, even as <strong>JPMorgan<\/strong> has once again come to the <strong>rescue<\/strong> by acquiring yet another <strong>failed<\/strong> <strong>bank<\/strong>. The aforementioned events have <strong>facilitated<\/strong> an increase in <strong>\ubcc0\ub3d9\uc131<\/strong> in the <strong>equities<\/strong> <strong>markets<\/strong> and as a result have pushed <strong>markets<\/strong> <strong>lower<\/strong> since last week, as traders await the <strong>Fed\u2019s interest rate decision<\/strong>, that is due <strong>today<\/strong>. Currently the <strong>Fed Funds Futures<\/strong> assign an <strong>86% probability<\/strong> for a <strong>25-basis point hike scenario<\/strong> to materialize, as such traders may be placing, heavier <strong>emphasis<\/strong> on the <strong>forward guidance<\/strong> released by the <strong>Fed<\/strong>, where depending on the <strong>nature<\/strong> of the <strong>wording<\/strong> used, may provide <strong>equity traders<\/strong> with <strong>hints<\/strong> as to how the <strong>FOMC<\/strong> might <strong>proceed<\/strong> in the <strong>future<\/strong>. Moreover, <strong>Fed Chair Powell\u2019s<\/strong> speech following the <strong>decision<\/strong> could further provide <strong>insight<\/strong> into the inner <strong>workings<\/strong> behind the <strong>Fed\u2019s<\/strong> <strong>decision<\/strong> and as such should any <strong>dovish<\/strong> <strong>sentiment<\/strong> be detected, we may see the <strong>equity<\/strong> <strong>markets<\/strong> <strong>gaining<\/strong> and vice versa. Lastly, we note that another <strong>market<\/strong> <strong>moving<\/strong> <strong>event<\/strong> is expected on <strong>Friday<\/strong>, namely the <strong>US Employment report<\/strong> and based on the recent announcements by firms such as <strong>Walmart, Meta, Walt Disney<\/strong> and many others who <strong>reduced their employee headcount<\/strong>, and may be shown in the <strong>NFP figure<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-apple-goes-banking\"><strong>Apple goes banking<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Apple<\/strong> recently kickstarted its <strong>high yield savings account<\/strong> in collaboration with <strong>Goldman Sachs<\/strong>, offering an eye watering 4.15% <strong>annual<\/strong> <strong>return<\/strong> compared to market equivalents.&nbsp; Following the launch, the new program appears to have brought in, approximately <strong>$400 million deposits<\/strong> on the first day it was released and nearly <strong>$990 million<\/strong> in the first four days. Taking the banking industry by surprise, it would appear that <strong>Apple<\/strong> has <strong>capitalized<\/strong> on <strong>growing<\/strong> consumer <strong>discontent<\/strong> with <strong>low interest rates<\/strong> offered by <strong>traditional<\/strong> <strong>banks<\/strong> and jumped on the opportunity to tap into the market. In addition, <strong>Apple\u2019s strategic move<\/strong> becomes even more appealing for consumers since the maximum amount that can be deposited is $250k which falls under the <strong>protected deposit guarantee policy of the FDIC<\/strong>. Lastly, we note <strong>Apple\u2019s<\/strong> <strong>earnings<\/strong> report, which is <strong>due<\/strong> out on <strong>Thursday<\/strong> could provide support for the stock should <strong>EPS<\/strong> \uadf8\ub9ac\uace0 <strong>Revenue<\/strong> estimates beat expectations it could propel <strong>#APPL<\/strong> to reach <strong>YTD<\/strong> <strong>highs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-technical-analysis\"><strong><u>\uae30\uc220\uc801 \ubd84\uc11d<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-aapl-daily-chart\"><strong>#AAPL Daily Chart<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"975\" height=\"456\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image-15.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-61744\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Support: 164.00 (S1), 159.00 (S2), 152.70 (S3)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Resistance: 169.75 (R1), 174.90 (R2), 179.35 (R3)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking at <strong>#AAPL<\/strong> Daily chart we observe investors reacting favorably to news that <strong>Apple\u2019s<\/strong> pioneering <strong>collaboration<\/strong> with <strong>Goldman<\/strong> <strong>Sachs<\/strong>, has reaped <strong>positive<\/strong> <strong>results<\/strong> \uadf8\ub9ac\uace0 <strong>aided<\/strong> to the <strong>stocks<\/strong> <strong>ascent<\/strong> near the $170 <strong>level<\/strong>. We hold a <strong>bullish<\/strong> <strong>outlook<\/strong> for <strong>Apple<\/strong> as the <strong>stock<\/strong> continues to validate our <strong>upwards<\/strong> moving <strong>trendline<\/strong> and adding <strong>support<\/strong> to our case is the <strong>RSI<\/strong> indicator which edges closer to the <strong>reading<\/strong> of 70. For our <strong>bullish<\/strong> <strong>outlook<\/strong> to continue, we would like to see a <strong>clear<\/strong> <strong>break<\/strong> <strong>above<\/strong> the 167.75 (R1) <strong>resistance<\/strong> line with the next potential <strong>target<\/strong> for the <strong>bulls<\/strong> being the 174.90 (R2) <strong>resistance<\/strong> barrier.
