How is it used?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <em>DeMarker indicator<\/em> is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ironfx.com\/nl\/technical-analysis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">technische analyse<\/a> tool that a trader will use to establish the demand of an underlying asset by comparing the asset\u2019s most recent lowest and highest price to the previous periods equivalent price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tool is also used to identify high risk buying or selling areas or directional trend in a specific market, and to time market entry and exit points. It falls into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ironfx.com\/en\/the-role-of-indicators-and-oscillators-in-metatrader-4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">oscillator category of technical indicators<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A typical period for <strong>DeMarker analysis<\/strong> is two weeks. This is not to say it can\u2019t be used with any other timeframe, it can. Other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ironfx.com\/en\/what-are-technical-indicators\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">indicators<\/a> developed by DeMark include TD Sequential, TD Combo, TD Lines, TD Range Expansion Index, TD Differential, and TD Pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key characteristics of the DeMarker Indicator<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The indicator plays a <strong>significant role<\/strong> in technical analysis for several reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It was designed as a leading indicator as it seeks to signal potential changes in price trend.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Seeing that it is based on relative price data, it can be applied to any timeframe.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is often used in combination with other signals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The indicator is typically used to identify <strong>risk levels<\/strong>, price exhaustion, and market tops and bottoms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unlike the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ironfx.com\/en\/a-comprehensive-guide-to-relative-strength-index-rsi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Relative Strength Index (RSI)<\/a>, the DeMarker indicator doesn\u2019t focus on closing levels, and instead looks at intra-period highs and lows.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is less susceptible to distortion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How the DeMarker Indicator is implemented<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>DeMarker indicator<\/strong> features a single fluctuating curve without using smoothed data. It is generally calculated over 14 periods. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, increasing the number of periods smooths the curve, and decreasing the number makes it more responsive. This oscillator ranges from zero to one with a midpoint of 0.5, although some versions use a -100 to 100 scale. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lines are typically drawn at 0.30 and 0.70 as indicators of possible price reversals. When values exceed these lines, it suggests a higher likelihood of a trend change, whereas values between the lines indicate a lower likelihood.
